Over the years, an abundance of famous and successful people has been born in March. Some are better known than others, but they have all achieved great feats. Here's a look at some of those people:
Pete Rozelle was born on March 1, 1926. He was the commissioner of the National Football League for 29 years, from January 1960 to November 1989. He is credited with making the NFL one of the most successful sports leagues in the entire world.
Jake Hamilton, a freshman at Winfield High School has been an avid "Scrubs" fan since it first aired in 2001. Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff) is his favorite character and role model.
Hamilton, born on March 2, compares himself to J.D. and aspires to become a surgeon, cardiologist or anesthesiologist. His life goal is to become Chief of Medicine by the time he is 40. He says he has wanted to be a doctor as long as he can remember. He will face much hard work to reach his goal, but he is willing to do it so he can make his lifelong dream come true.
If it weren't for Alexander Graham Bell, who knows where our society would be? He was born on March 3, 1847 and, as most people know, he invented the first telephone. During his life span, Bell invented many things, but the telephone was his greatest achievement. Although drastically altered to fit the day and age in which we currently live, his invention has stayed with us through the years.
Art is a major part of our world. It surrounds us every day whether we realize it or not. Michelangelo Buonarroti, or simply Michelangelo as he is better known, was an Italian Renaissance painter, born on March 6, 1475. He did not reach fame until after his death, yet he is known as one of the most influential painters of all time.
Winfield High School sophomore Katie Ball, born on March 9, knows exactly where she wants to go in life. Her dream is to become a party planner.
She feels that it is the perfect job for her because she is an extremely outgoing person and gets along fabulously with everyone. She has a knack for organizing and is always ready to lend a helping hand.
Ball's goal is to become a party planner for celebrities in all major international cities. She plans on doing whatever it takes to keep her dream high up on a pedestal because she won't give anybody that doubts her the satisfaction of seeing her fail.
Carrie Underwood won "American Idol" in 2005. It was her portal to stardom, launching her career and allowing her to realize her dream of becoming a famous country singer. Since then, she has become a huge star, winning lots of awards and touring the country. Believe it or not, she too is a fellow "Marchie," born on March 10, 1983.
On March 18, 1972, comedian and actor Dane Cook was born. Cook first found fame through stand-up comedy, where he earned tons of fans with his hilarious routines. He continues to spread smiles like peanut butter across the faces of his fans, though more recently he's done it on the big screen with roles in films like "Employee of the Month," "Good Luck Chuck," "Dan in Real Life," and "Horton Hears a Who," which opens on March 14.
One of the greatest athletes of all time was born on March 31, 1928. Gordie Howe, commonly known as Mr. Hockey, is the greatest hockey player in history, setting an incredible number of records in the 32 years that he played. He is also the only professional athlete in the world to have played in six different decades. He truly is the NHL's MVP.
There are many other Marchies who have made their dreams come true, and certainly there will be more to come. As Mark Twain said, "Keep away from people who belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you too can become great.
