Locked Up

Locked up, surrounded by four brick walls.

Constantly being watched by the guards pacing up and down the halls.

Spending time in a cold dark cell.

Some people say this is similar to a place called hell.

Staring out a small window, looking deep into the sky,

wishing to myself that I was able to fly.

Can’t sleep –

non-stop tossing and turning on the hard, cold concrete.

Awaken early every morning by a loud bang at my cell door.

“Get the hell up!” the guard yells, and my feet hit the floor.

Now, I spend my day with regretful thoughts running rapidly through my mind.

I’m no longer lost and no longer blind.

I now can see that only I hold the key.

I see a future that is extraordinarily bright

I see two people standing in the moonlight

I see the stars shining down from above

And just like magic, these two fall in love

I sense a feeling like never before

I feel a power, like an urge to soar

Above the clouds is where I hide

In my imagination is where I reside

Looking for something, never found

Keep on searching all around

Because of you I know I belong

We all make mistakes, sometimes wrong

I found a piece of what was missing

Asking for help, but no one’s listening

Holding tight to all I’ve got

Feeling left out and distraught

I look in the mirror, you’re always there

Your face is present, making me stare

I feel your presence inside my soul

All these emotions that make me whole

I Said Everything

I opened my heart to you

Your pushed me away

I told you everything

You said nothing

My heart aches to see you

Yet you avoid my eyes

My ears strain to hear your voice

The wind carries it away

My arms yearn to hold you

Yet you remain out of reach

I said I love you

You said what is love?

I said I need you

You said you did not need me

Your voice and presence haunt me

How am I supposed to move on

If you never leave?

You will make it

For the victims of Hurricane Katrina

I know that you have had a really hard time

so to comfort you I wrote this little rhyme

I really hope you don't give up and quit

just remember that you will make it through it

Times may get hard and you feel that it will never end

don't worry time will pass and some of the pain will go with the wind

It will get better you will see

so think of the world when you get lonely

People all around the world are praying for you

you will make it through it really is true

Life will get easier and time will go on

it gets better no matter how bad your heart will be torn

Just believe in yourself and remember to always smile

you will make it through even if it takes a while

Keep your faith and don't be scared to bad

you will make it through this don't be so sad

WEST VIRGINIA

The sweet sounds of mountain streams,

With beautiful wild flowers growing around its sides,

The calm serenity draws me closer.

The sweet sounds of birds in the morning,

And the restless sounds of wildlife, young and old,

All of this draws me closer.

The old country roads lead to dusty towns

Not far away the old dusty coal mines lie,

All of this draws me closer.

The great big parks with bright blue skies,

The sweet sounds of waterfalls hidden deep in forests,

It all draws me closer.

The long dark nights are peaceful,

The tall, tall mountains are beautiful,

No matter where I live or what I do,

It all still draws me closer.

Fading Freedom

Jesus loves me,

This I know,

For the president tells me so,

The same one who stole a crooked election,

And decided to steer America in a lethal direction,

But now he wants $80 billion more,

To continue America’s ongoing terrorist war.

The tax cuts are working,

But 3 million people are not,

And as rumors of an attack were lurking,

The president was vacationing on a lavish yacht.

Then 9-11 came along,

And our little George sang a war song,

And instigated a war on truth,

Spreading propaganda and fear to America’s brainwashed youth,

Fear that dressed them in a camo suit,

Fear that pulled the trigger,

Fear caused by this all-American gold-digger.

The most deadly attack on American soil,

Certainly didn’t seem to put our president in too much turmoil,

Intolerance and fear seem to be his favorite to preach,

And 9-11 was never forgotten in George’s speech.

Since we couldn’t seem to smoke Osama out of his hole,

Our bright administration targeted a new goal,

And those nuclear weapons in Iraq,

Seemed like a pretty good reason to fight back.

So the mission began,

To convert our newfound hatred,

To Iraq from Afghanistan.

And on the hypnotized American soldiers marched,

Through towns left parched,

Through cities of bloodstained innocence.

They marched,

At the command of the secretary of ignorance.

They helped spread democracy,

From the hot end of a pointed gun,

And they helped promote freedom,

By torturing prisoners,

Until their beaten bodies went numb.

He seems to have no problem making his own choices,

And ignoring outside recommendations,

Who cares about the silly old United Nations?

As another American soldier bites the dust,

Because of one man’s ill-gotten trust,

I wonder who will fill their shoes,

Because pretty soon we won’t be allowed to choose.

Americans have been denied the truth,

That if this war endures,

There will be a draft of this country’s betrayed youth.

We live in a nation,

Led by the dominant rich corporations.

This is a land of green paper power,

And the two fallen towers.

His base is known as the “haves and have mores,”

Also known as the kind of idiots,

That start unnecessary wars.

As we watch the fair and balanced “news,”

We become entangled,

In a war of slanted and biased truth,

Led by the unfortunate views,

Of those lying for Fox News.

I watch as those belonging to the right wing,

Bow to their fabricated king.

Our founding fathers spin in their graves,

As the flag of vengeance waves,

They watch Bush paralyze the Constitution,

And cripple our rights,

As the power of deception reaches new heights.

He says we are fine,

As our economy plunges in an inevitable decline.

It’s not moral for gays to get married,

But guess what Mr. Bush gets?

A $40 million inauguration during a $1 trillion deficit!

Americans are denied adequate health care,

But hey,

We’ve got the power of prayer!

Bush thinks he cares about the environment,

Too bad the Clean Air Act,

Didn’t seem to have too much of a positive impact.

We have no allies,

And even though we’ve got God on our side,

In Bush’s very own Crusades,

Somehow the colors of patriotism have begun to fade.

Our president speaks with an open mouth,

And a closed mind,

Causing his so-called values and the government,

To become intertwined.

So put your hand over your heart,

And pledge to fear,

Because whether you like it or not,

He’s here for four more years.

Creation vs. Evolution

Evolving from animals

Created from dirt

When we talk about this subject

People's feelings are hurt

Although it is a subject that must be discussed

Many people look upon it with hatred and disgust

From court to court

Cases are turned down

Oh when oh when

Will an agreement be found

These people

They need to get along

And quit claiming they’re right

And others are wrong

Maybe in the end

It will come

After all voices have been heard

And all arguments have been sung

People will realize

That creation should reign on top

And theories of evolution

Will eventually stop

So we will wait

Until people can see

That creation is true

And not just a theory
