We are a generation that is more connected to the world than ever before. This is primarily thanks to the Internet.
With a simple click, we can get nearly anything at our fingertips. This means there's plenty of information for whatever we need, but there's also plenty of entertainment.
There are famous web sites that get millions of hits every day, including YouTube, MySpace and Facebook. But, how do you go beyond that? More often than not, websites are discovered through word of mouth.
When you've exhausted your group of friends as a resource for brilliant, Internet entertainment, try checking out one of these fun sites.
Pandora.com
This is the coolest thing I've come across. It's a site to help you find musical artists you'll love. Just type in the name of your favorite band, and Pandora will play other bands with a similar sound. Plus, it's free!
Overheardinnewyork.com
I read this daily because it's hilarious. It's a collection of little snippets of conversations heard on the streets of New York, posted for our enjoyment. Just a warning, though: those New Yorkers will say anything, so avoid this site if you're easily offended.
Jonathancoulton.com
Jonathan Coulton is brilliant artist who has a strong Internet following. His songs are as witty as they are varied. One of my favorites is a folk cover of "Baby Got Back." Since the songs are written under Creative Commons, it's completely legal to give a copy of them to your friends or use them in a YouTube video. Many of them are free on his site, too.
Yugiohtheabridgedseries.com
This is one of the funniest sites I've been to in a while. It's full of five-minute videos based of the cartoon "Yu-Gi-Oh." In the episodes, the creator pokes fun at the show's blatant censorship and its thinning plot. A lot of hard work and long hours were put into each video, and it really shows.
Garfieldminusgarfield.tumblr.com
I never would have thought that removing Garfield would make the Garfield comic strip better, but it's true! This is a brilliant collection of comics that deal with themes of loneliness to schizophrenia, all starring Jon Arbuckle. You'll laugh out loud and wonder why Garfield was ever there in the first place.
Kittenwar.com
This site asks one of the important questions in life: which kitten is the cuter? Just click on the picture of the cutest kitten, and your opinion is recorded! I must admit, though, that I wouldn't love this site half as much if it didn't have that "winningest kitten" page. You can spend an entire day gawking over the undeniable cuteness of these kittens.
Homestarrunner.com
I have loved this site for many years. It's a collection of original flash animations featuring zany and lovable characters and their misadventures. The characters' habits and their appearances are unforgettable. Some of them even have invisible arms! This site is highly entertaining and absolutely addictive.
