I was right again. The show with the three finalists proved to be the best yet. I swear if you took the three worst contestants ever and put them in the final three it would be a good show - OK, well, maybe not.
Round one was the judges' pick. Paula picked "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel for David A. I thought he was very good but the worst in the round. Paula loved it, Randy liked it and Simon thought it was just OK.
Randy picked Alicia Keys "If I Ain't Got You" for Syesha. I was worried when I heard that she was singing this song, but she did amazing. All the judges liked it.
Simon chose Roberta Flack's "First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" for David C. and his performance of it was amazing. All the judges liked it, and I'd give the first round to him.
Round two was the contestants' choice.
Once again, David A. was the worst, performing Chris Brown's "With You." This song is not a song to sing on "American Idol" when there are only three people left. However, he is an amazing singer, so it worked for the most part. Randy and Simon didn't like it; on the other hand, Paula loved it.
Syesha sang Peggy Lee's "Fever." It was seductive, and her vocals were amazing. Randy liked it; but Paula and Simon didn't care for her version. I say it was the best song of the round.
David Cook took on Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move." He did very nicely on the chorus and at the end but not so great on the verse.
Round three was the producers' choice. David A took on Dan Fogelberg's "Longer." I liked it, but it wasn't his best. Paula and Randy loved it, and Simon liked the vocals.
Syesha sang well with her take on Gia Farrell's "Hit Me Up," but it wasn't her best. While Randy and Simon liked it, Paula wasn't impressed. Producers know how to keep their favorites.
The last performance of the night was David C.'s rendition of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing." Again the verse was weak, but the chorus and ending were amazing.
I'd say this round goes to him, so with that, David A. deserved the boot and Syesha should have slid into the top 2 with David C.
David A. was my second favorite at the start of the season, but he has stayed the same talent-wise in my opinion - he hasn't gotten worse, but he hasn't improved either. Conversely, I think David C. has improved somewhat and Syesha has improved tremendously. Archie is a little bit like a robot - always the same - while Syesha, and to a lesser extent, David Cook, have shown their human side, striving to improve themselves each week.
As Ryan Seacrest said, this is the closest race ever between the top three, so that right there is something to be proud of, but it was still sad to see Syesha go home. Unfortunately, it really wasn't all that surprising. The producers knew what they were doing, giving her "Hit Me Up" to sing.
I think Syesha should leave with her head held high and should know that she really deserved to be second place (at least.) With the voting so close, her fans are the ones who will make a difference next week. I hope they make the better choice and vote for Cook because he is more original and has improved more this season than Archie.
