Analyzing 'American Idol'

If you ask me, this week wasn't shocking at all. It was Neil Diamond week, and Syesh - my new favorite after Carly got eliminated last week - landed in the bottom two yet again despite what I thought were two amazing performances.

She sang "Hello Again" and "I Thank the Lord for the Nighttime." Her first song was a little boring but she had amazing vocals. Her second song was the best performance of the week. Her vocals were amazing, and she had loads of fun.

Still, Syesha was only the second best of the night, I though.

Barely edging her out to be my favorite for the week was David C. His first song, "All I Really Need is You," was good, but his vocals weren't amazing. His second song, "I'm Alive," was the second best of the night behind Syesha's second song.

Then there was Jason, who once again should have been in the bottom two but was once again announced safe. I guess it's not that shocking really. He continues to be the worst but always manages to stay safe.

Anyway, his performance of "Forever in Blue Jeans" felt like two songs, so maybe Paula is halfway normal. It was soooo boring! His second song, "September Morn," was slightly better but it still was nowhere near being my favorite.

Moving on to David A., he was my third favorite this week -- right in the middle. He didn't do amazing, but I was still impressed with his take on Sweet Caroline" and "Coming to America." The only reason he wasn't my favorite was due to his lack of originality, but I can't be too hard on him - he is only 17 after all.

Finally, there's Brooke, my second least-favorite this week. Even though she was one of my least favorites this week, I still like her. Sadly, she was eliminated, though. (However, I was much happier to see her leave than Syesha.)

Brooke is such a fun contestant. She had loads of fun this week with I'm a Believer" even though her performance was just average. Her other song, "I Am I Said," was amazing, though.

So it was a good week for the Idols overall, except Mr. Dreadlocks. With Brooke's elimination, we're left with three amazing contestants and one not-so-amazing one in the final four.

My friend Shayna favorites in the competition were Brooke and Jason. Mine were Syesha and Carly. Now that we only have one left apiece, we will be arguing this week for sure. But hopefully her contestant will be the one eliminated next week because I really don't think that it will one of the Davids.
