Attention artists!
FlipSide is looking for talented high school artists to create original comics for our magazine each month.
We’re starting a monthly comic feature, so if you’ve got an idea that you think would make a good comic strip, show us what you can do. We will select at least one strip to run each month. The creator(s) of each comic printed will be paid $10 for their work and have the opportunity to become a regular FlipSide artist if they choose.
The deadline to submit for next month’s magazine is October 18.
Comics can be a single or multi-panel strip. Single panels should be no larger than 3 inches wide by 4 inches tall and strips no bigger than 6 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall.
The use of color is strongly encouraged. No offensive language or images will be accepted.
Editorial cartoons will also be accepted. However, keep in mind that FlipSide only comes out once a month, so the topic that you’re addressing should be something with a little bit of stretch so that it will still be just as relevant when the magazine comes out as it was when you drew it.
Mail your submission to FlipSide, The Charleston Gazette, 1001 Virginia St. E., Charleston, WV 25301 or e-mail it to flipside@wvgazette.com as a .jpg, .tif or.gif file with “FlipSide comic” in the subject line. Multiple submissions are allowed.
Be sure to include the name of the comic as well as your name, school, grade and e-mail address or telephone number so we can contact you if we decide to use your strip.
If you have any questions, e-mail flipside@wvgazette.com or call 348-4881.
